Make Your Own Stylish Fishing Decor
Ever wanted to use your old fishing gear to make something stylish for yourself or home? It’s fun, creative, and most of all inexpensive and there are plenty different types of unique fishing equipment out there to choose from.
The first thing that you need is, well, the fishing gear. If you’re not a natural fisherman than you may have to do some searching for hooks, bobbers, lures, rods, and reels. It’s best to use something that you can’t actually use for fishing anymore. (Like if a bobber won’t float, or a hook is broke etc.)
Probably one of the best and cheapest ways to purchase fishing equipment is at yard or estate sales. Fishing nets, poles, lures, bobbers, metal stringers, and anything else you come across is a great start!
One thing to look out for is that you don’t make something that still has that nasty fish smell to it. Make sure that you clean everything thoroughly so that the smell goes away. The best thing to do is use alcohol for lures and bobbers, detergent and bleach for nets, and vinegar or lemon juice.
Now that you have found some equipment what exactly can you make with it? This is where you can get as creative as you want. You can make containers or even lamps. You can make curtains by using boat line, staining nets, bobbers, and curtains. Using old fashion poles can be great curtain rods.
If you would like to spruce up an old lamp, you can hot glue bobbers to the base to add a little customization. Place some netting over this to add a little more.
Old wooden pictures frames are another easy thing to use. You can glue lures on them, or bobbers, metal stringer, etc. Using fishing lures without the hooks for cabinets or pull down lights, and netting under mirrors are something that could be extremely decorative in a home.
This is a great and inexpensive way to spruce up any occasion!
